Our pets are members of the family and also get treated just like our own children! With how much fun they are able to bring into our lives, it is only fair that we give back the same amount of love and care through the simple things they enjoy, like giving them treats and going on walks.

Our pets, however, require a much more specific type of care when it comes to keeping them healthy. While we may usually succumb to the common cold, dogs get their own problems too–ticks and fleas.

We hate them, and we know you and your pets do too.

However, a new cure has been sweeping the market and is becoming the go-to Tick and Flea Solution–Bravecto. But still, public opinion is growing weary of its side effects.

What Is Bravecto Anyways?

Bravecto comes as a chewable tablet, which has been approved by the FDA as a tick and flea preventative, and its effects have shown to be very potent and efficient at dealing with ticks and fleas.

The key ingredient found inside Bravecto is Fluralaner, which is ingested by your pet orally through the chewable tablet and then travels through your pet’s system to do its magic.

Fluralaner is an insecticide and an acaricide that specializes in dealing with ticks and fleas. When they are exposed to it through your pet’s blood, they will soon die. Within 2 hours of ingestion, your dog will be rid of fleas, and in 12 hours all ticks will follow suit. While in cats, all fleas will die by the 12-hour mark from ingestion.

The effects have been studied and documented to last over 12 weeks and keep your pets safe and itch-free with just one dosage!

So what’s the current fuss going around about how long do Bravecto side effects last?

Bravecto Side Effects

Flea

Bravecto is a very safe drug for your pet to use; however, news has been spreading around that there are plenty of side effects towards its use, some stating that it can potentially be lethal. Still, the fact of the matter is this couldn’t possibly be caused by Bravecto because it was already tested at much higher dosages before it made its way into the pet care market.

Heck, even the side effects that it could inhibit come at a ratio of 1 in 1,000 pets, which is a rate so little it can readily be ignored. With that in mind, here are some of the possible side effects that Bravecto can cause:

Vomiting – Although Bravecto has shown to be readily eaten by most pets immediately through the chewable tablet even without mixing it food, there is a very slim chance of it causing your pet to vomit. This might be due to your pet having an upset stomach before even ingesting the chewable tablet–to which the new medicine may have caused a reaction. Such cases can also be linked to already existing problems that were not diagnosed and did not sit well with the Bravecto.

However, you can expect this side effect to go away within an hour or so as tummy problems tend to go away after Bravecto begins to work its way into the system.

Diarrhea – Alongside the likes of vomiting, diarrhea is another side effect that can be triggered by Bravecto, although at a very slim chance as well. Pets have different stomachs; some have strong ones, while others work with the very fragile ones–the ones that tend to be very picky about what they eat. Bravecto’s chewable tablets may not sit well with very weak stomachs or those with pre-existing tummy conditions.

However, this side effect will only be temporary and will soon go away after the initial ingestion, just endure from 1 to 2 hours, and your pet will be free of ticks and fleas for the next 3 months!

  1. Appetite Changes – Just like any other medicine, Bravecto may induce changes in your pet’s appetite, and more often than not, it will decrease it and make your pet reject food for a certain amount of time. This is due to the introduction of the drug into your pet’s system. Although completely safe, the tummy may require some time of getting used to. The side effect depends on the pet but will last around 3 hours or less, and their appetite will slowly come back by then.
  2. Thirst Changes – Another side effect that can be induced by Bravecto is to your pet’s thirst, albeit making them thirsty for a certain amount of time. Although it really depends on your pet and how well they take to Bravecto, in the majority of cases that were reported, pets had an increased water intake for about 30 minutes to 1 hour after taking medicine.
  3. Weakness – In the most serious cases and also the very improbable cases, your pet may experience weakness after taking Bravecto. While Bravecto has been tested to be safe, existing conditions of the pet may lead to unwanted distress for your pet. However, even in these most extreme and small number of cases, the effects showed to last for about an hour or less until their pet regained some strength.

Bravecto Chews

So to answer the question of how long do Bravecto side effects last, most of them really fall in within the 1-hour mark–and most likely you will not even have to worry about them at all!

The best course of action to take though is also to double check with your veterinarian to avoid any unforeseen circumstances arising.

It’s best to have your pet diagnosed and to ask a professional whether they do or don’t recommend Bravecto for your pet; this comes in at an all-important high if your pet has a history with seizures.

What’s the Catch to Using Bravecto?

Despite the common belief of all good things coming at a catch, Bravecto comes with all the benefits and with no costs except the money you pay to have it.

If you do the responsible deed of checking up with your veterinarian first, then you will be making a huge difference to the amount of happiness both you and your pet can share for the years to come!

We all face some stomach problems now and then, and that isn’t just limited to us people because our pets do get these nasty and annoying tummy aches too.

Just when you thought the day was going so great for you or your pet, suddenly you’re faced with an ache that renders your appetite to non-existent and pain to very annoying levels.

However, we’ve got the benefit of having some Tums stashed and ready to be of use when the time comes, but we know you’ve got something else in mind when you got those out.

Can you give your dog Tums and is it really safe to use for them? And how many Tums can I give my dog for it to be safe?

What Is Tums in the First Place?

Happy little orange havanese puppy dog is sitting in the grass

Tums is an antacid that is used to relieve heartburn by reducing the acid in the stomach before it can cause you any more distress. The weaker the acid found inside your stomach becomes, the less likely it will be that you start experiencing any heartburn.

There are three key ingredients found inside Tums that work as an antacid and help each other in order to neutralize the acidity found in your stomach–these three are calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and sodium bicarbonate. And since these three work together to help fight off the chances of experiencing heartburn, decreasing the acidity in the stomach is also a great way to combat any tummy problem and helps an upset stomach feel better again.

It is a very effective and efficient medicine that has been sweeping the market and filling everyone’s homes, but is it really a good alternative to use when your pet is experiencing any tummy problems? What implications or side effects could it possibly bring to your unsuspecting pooch who is in need of help with their tummy aches?

Is It Safe for Your Doggy?

While there are definitely better options out there available, Tums is actually a very safe alternative when it comes to taking care of your dog’s tummy aches without having to go the extra mile. However, these are some of the reasons that you may not want to opt for it in the long run:

  1. Not as Efficient – Although Tums is very effective and efficient in working its magic in people, the same cannot be said for your dog because of a hundred other reasons. The main one is that they digest at a much faster rate than we people do; only allowing the compound to work for a certain duration before fully working its benefits. You will need quite the specific dosage to have your dog experience the same amount of relief we get from using Tums.
  2. Allergies – While Tums is made to help the human body system in taking care of heartburn and tummy aches in the process, the same story does not apply more so to dogs. In fact, your dog’s system might even be allergic to some of the dyes or compounds found in Tums. In this viewpoint, the risks start outweighing the benefits. Who knows how your dog could react, so it’s best that you stay safe.
  3. Toxicity – It may be completely safe for us to use; however, the same cannot be said for dogs as there may be the chance of it having artificial sweeteners like xylitol. While it does prove no harm for us, it is very dangerous for your dog to ingest and may lead to some very serious problems in the process.
  4. Too Much Calcium – Calcium is perfectly fine, but when it comes to dogs, too much of this calcium carbonate compound may lead to some very serious side effects as well. Most especially in puppies because their systems are not able to comprehend and use such overdose in calcium and will severely hamper their bone and cartilage development.
  5. Better Options – There exists many better options out there that are made specifically for the use of your canine, so why even risk it with something else when you can use products for your dog?

When Tums Is the Only Thing Available

In the off chance that Tums is your only available remedy for your dog’s tummy aches, then you need to make sure that you are first using one that has no color dyes to avoid any allergic reaction.

Also double check with the ingredients found inside the Tums you have and make sure that there are no artificial sweeteners present to avoid any further complications.

Here is a brief overview of how many tums can I give my dog:

  1. Small Dogs – For the smaller dogs, they will need a dosage of 1,250 mg to be effective and not go away too quickly.
  2. Medium Dogs – For dogs that are slightly bigger, they will need 2 grams to 4 grams depending on how big they are.
  3. Big Dogs – If your pooch is definitely quite big, then the recommended dosage will have to be at least between 4 grams to 6 grams to be effective.
  4. Giant Dogs – If you have an undeniably big dog that can be considered a giant, then the higher dosage will be needed between 6 grams to 10 grams.

What You Can Do Better

Rather than wonder how many Tums can I give my dog, it is always the safer and smarter option to check with your veterinarian first before doing anything drastic which could pose a hazard to your pet.

Tums may be a good alternative, but it should not be relied on as frequently as this may cause problems in the long run. A trip to the vet will always beat any potential alternative to fixing any of your pet’s problems.

In any case, as long as you remain vigilant, alert, and well informed, then your pet will surely get through that tummy ache and will keep coming back happy if you’ve used everything you learned today!

Honestly, knowing how long is an hour in dog time is a complicated process. Do you think that the seven-year equivalent of the dog year to the human year is accurate?

Dog TimeIf we are just going to rely on that popular myth, the calculation of the equivalence of dog time to human time should not be complicated.

All that you have to do is simply multiply the human hour by seven, and you will get the dog equivalent of the human hour by seven. However, that is not the case and not true.

If you are going to think about it, sticking to this belief will only lead to an irrational and funny conclusion. If one year is equivalent to seven dog years, then it will not be hard for us to reach the age of 105 or even just a hundred. Also, if we are going to use this belief as a basis, humans should be able to reproduce at the age of seven.

For this reason, it is just rational to learn how the time works between us and our furry pals.

What You Will Need

Use a reliable dog age calculator or a dog age chart

You can choose between the age calculator that computes the dog year equivalent with the size of the dog as a variable or the one that uses dog breed as a variable.

I suggest that you go for the latter because it is more accurate as it accounts for the breed of the dog.

You may also simply look for a dog age chart on the Internet for faster reference.

Is Calculating Dog Hours Complicated?

Ditch the Belief That the Equivalent of One Year Is Seven Years in Dogs

As what has been mentioned before, there is a flaw in the logic of this belief. The origin of this myth is not yet known. However, the experts believe that this is just a marketing strategy that persuades concerned pet owners to visit the vet for at least once a year.

Moreover, most dogs outlive their average lifespan of 10 to 15 years. Some even reached more than 20 years, equivalent to 140 human years.

Learn How the Dogs Age

We are all aware that humans and dogs age differently. On the average, in the first two years, the dogs age more rapidly than from the rest of their succeeding years

. Commonly, the succeeding years are equivalent to three to five years per human year.

If we are going to use this principle as a basis, the result is far more accurate compared to the old seven-year myth.

Using the chart, you will notice that the first two years is equivalent to 24 years. Let us say that your 20-year-old dog ages five years older per succeeding year and you want to know the equivalent of its age in the human age.

Here are the variables to use:

  • 24 (Dogs’ first two years equivalent)
  • 5 (Your assumption of how your dog age on the succeeding years. You may use five if you want to)
  • 18 (20 years minus the two years)

Human years = 24 + (5*18)

Therefore, a 20-year-old dog is equivalent to a 114-year-old human.

Do Not Disregard the Other Factors.

Yorkshire Terrier puppy dog

Although the above computation is more accurate than the seven-year equivalent myth, it is still not enough to regard it as an accurate computation. There are other factors that affect the real equivalent of the human age to the dog’s age. These factors include the size and breed of the dog.

Commonly, the smaller breeds age faster, but they tend to live longer. On the other hand, the bigger breeds age slower but have shorter lives.

Aside from the size of the dog, you also have to consider the dog’s breed. For example, you can surmise the Beagle and the Australian Cattle dogs are within the range of the medium breed. However, they still age differently.

According to a dog age calculator that takes the dog breed into consideration, two years is equivalent to 24 years for a Beagle. On the other hand, it is 25 years for Australian Cattle.

Just Use the Dog Age Calculator or Dog Aging Chart

Computing the equivalent of your dog’s age to the human age will give you a tremendous headache because of the several variables and factors to consider. To solve this problem, you just have to resort to a reliable dog age calculator or a dog aging chart.

As much as possible, choose the one that takes the dog breed into consideration.

However, you might be asking what if your dog is a cross breed. If your dog is a cross breed, you can just rely on the second step of this procedure to calculate your dog’s age manually. However, it is better if you use a dog age calculator or dog aging chart that consider the dog’s size as a variable.

If you are serious in knowing the age of your crossbreed dog accurately, you can go to your vet and ask for a simple genetic analysis. This analysis will provide you the information on what breed your furry friend is closest to.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoy reading this tutorial. With the information written above, it is tricky to know how long is an hour in dog time accurately. Based on the dog aging chart, you can still guess the dog’s equivalent of an hour close to accuracy during the first dog year, which is 15 human hours.

However, it is complicated to tell once your dog gets older.

Knowing how your dog time works will give you an idea of how long your furry friend will stay with you. What is more important is to cherish every moment with your dog while it is there beside you.

This is none other than the work of gnats; these flies that resemble mosquitoes plague many of our homes, and we often don’t even notice! And since keeping your pet safe is of utmost priority, we have prepared this guide just for you.

Today we will find out how to keep gnats off dogs, the secret to keeping your pet safe from these nasty insects that infest your home!

What Are Gnats?

Gnats

Gnats are very much like mosquitoes; these are winged insects that are small and very long-legged.

However, the gnat is a much weaker flier. Gnats are attracted to any moisture and organic material, and will not think twice of settling in when they know that a part of your home can easily be invaded and made living space for their families to grow.

All it takes is one place to be oozing with moisture or anything unsanitary left unkempt for way too long, and gnats will surely come knocking on your door to move in.

Are Gnats Dangerous?

Mosquito sucking blood

Not only will you want to know how to keep gnats off dogs, but you will also need to find a way to keep them out of your house forever. Although small, these guys can pack quite the punch under the right conditions. They may pose to be quite the threat not only to your dog’s health but yours as well.

Due to their behavior of moving from one unsanitary location to the next, they are able to carry nasty diseases and dangerous pathogens wherever they may decide to set up shop.

From potentially infecting your food, plants, and furniture with ill-ridden diseases, they can also go as far as biting you and feeding off of your blood as other gnats do.

These types of gnats that bite are known to carry parasites and spread diseases which pose a threat to anyone who is exposed to an environment that is housing these dangerous insects.

What Are the Effects of Gnats on Your Dog?

Dogs are quite the adventurers and will practically go through all the hard work of getting to see every nook and cranny they can find inside your household. We can’t blame them, though; that’s just who they are.

This is what makes the task of learning how to keep gnats off dogs more important because their adventurous side often leads them to very dangerous places as well.

When they start sniffing around in places they shouldn’t really be in, it calls the attention of many small insects disturbed by the furry creatures a million times bigger than them!

This encounter leads to bites, and leave your pooch experiencing any of the following effects due to his playfulness:

  • Swelling – Some bites often lead to swelling, more commonly found in the face area. You may find swelling on the eyelids, lips, earflaps, and more of your sad dog. This causes them extreme discomfort, and if left untreated, it may lead to even more dangerous problems.
  • Weakness – Some dogs have a hard time dealing with the idea that they got bit, and it affects their system, effectively weakening them, and making them feel down.
  • Allergic Reactions – Bites may also trigger an allergic reaction and cause even more problems which will require a hasty visit to the veterinarian in order to ensure that your dog’s health is completely safe.

How Can You Deal with These Gnats?

Mosquitoes insects in action

Despite how dangerous they are, there actually exist many known methods that you can use or even buy to expose these gnats to things they hate and effectively kick them out of your home to make it safe once more.

Here are among the many ways you can keep gnats off your dogs:

Keep The Fruit – One of the main food sources of gnats are fruits so if you really want to learn how to keep gnats off dogs, then you are going to need to keep that fruit inside the fridge.

Leaving it on the kitchen table or exposed to air lets gnats detect and find a sustainable food source, effectively giving them the idea that your home is an ideal spot for the next infestation.

Be vigilant and keep your fruit fresh and free of any incoming uprising of a nasty gnat invasion.

Clean Stagnant Water – Open water sources that are left unkempt become the breeding grounds of many insects, especially gnats in this case.

It is in your best interest to make sure your home is free of any of these in order to stop their crazy population from growing and overrunning your entire household.

Keep Soil Dry – Wet soil is another place for gnats to plat their eggs and start a crazy infestation when you least expect it.

In fact, compared to stagnant water, this is the most common and hard to deal with. To avoid this, you will want to avoid overwatering your plants and only water them when necessary.

This is to avoid the development of their larva and keep the gnats far from hurting your pooch and family.

Insecticide/Traps – You can also make use of products made specifically to deal with these gnats. While they may come at a price, the benefits will surely outweigh the costs if you use it effectively.

The Gnat Invasion Verdict

Prevention is a million times better than cure, so if you want to avoid your dog from ever having to deal with gnats and the possible effects of bites, make sure that you keep your house clean and follow this guide laid out to you today.

When you make sure to follow the information given, you will never have to worry about how to keep gnats off dogs ever again!

Do you know that there are two solutions on how to make pit bulls bigger? It is either you make them fat or build their muscles. Of course, you do not want to make them fat. Obesity and diabetes on dogs are real and not just gossip or myth.

Obesity is the most common dog health problem not just for pit bulls but also for the other breeds. Improper food intake and lack of exercise are the causes of this. Dog obesity may lead to fatal consequences like tumors, heart disease, liver disease, and death.

Just like in humans, diabetes in dogs is often caused by excessive fat or sugar intake that may damage your pooch’s pancreas.

The human parents are the ones to blame for causing these health problems on their pet dogs. It is because they are the ones who are responsible for the feeding and activities of their dogs.

Just like how you can be responsible for your dog’s health problem, you are also responsible and capable of making your pit bull bigger by building its muscles instead. Building your pit bull’s muscles will make it strong and active.

What You Will Need:

  • Treadmill (optional)
  • Harness
  • Tire (optional, because any weights will do)
  • Spring pole
  • Dog food
  • Chicken or fish or other alternative meat protein source

Step-by-Step Procedure

Observe Your Dog’s Proper Diet

The most common mistake that humans do once they get a pit bull under their wings is to get caught up in their excitement. They want to see the results fast. For this reason, they Angry dogtend to overfeed their pit-bull puppy.

Overfeeding may lead to dog health problems that may lead to future problems that may last a lifetime. Although it is advisable to start observing the dogs’ proper diet while they are still young, you have to make sure to do it properly and gradually.

The secret to leading the puppies to have a muscular built when they reach their full growth is the intake of amino acids particularly the 10 amino acids found in proteins.

These amino acids are essential for muscle building and bone strengthening.

You can provide them these essentials by feeding them dog food intended for large breed puppies. Although these dog foods are more expensive than the regular dog foods, the result will pay off.

Learn How Your Pit Bull’s Body Works

By learning how your pit bull’s body works, you will know the best time to adjust your dog’s diet. You will also know if your dog has reached its fully developed stage.

Commonly, pit bulls should reach their maximum height after a year they were born. They should start developing their muscles when they are 18 months old to two years of age. This stage is the best time to focus on developing their muscles.

Your pit bull should be fully developed by the age of three.

Observe the Proper Feeding Interval and Portioning

Dog breed American Pit Bull Terrier

It is better to give your pit bull some food in several servings with few portions than to give them lots of food in one serving that will last throughout the day.

Start by identifying how much food your dog needs for a day and divide them it into four portions. Add fish or boiled chicken as two separate meals.

Here is the suggested meal interval.

  • First meal (8:00 am): One-fourth of the dog’s meal for the day.
  • Second meal (11:00 am): One piece of fish or chicken.
  • Third meal (1:00 pm): One-fourth of the dog’s meal for the day.
  • Fourth meal (3:00 pm): One piece of fish or chicken.
  • Fifth meal (5:00 pm): One-fourth of the dog’s meal for the day.
  • Sixth meal (8:00 pm): One-fourth of the dog’s meal for the day.

You should be aware that some dogs are allergic to chicken. For this reason, it is best to consult your vet first before following this meal interval to ask for a good alternative. Your dog’s vet knows best.

Let Your Dog Do Muscle Building Exercises

American Staffordshire Terrier dog runningProper diet and exercise go together in building your dog’s muscles. In this step, train your dog’s endurance through weight pulling. You can do it by having your pit bull pull a tire or a weight with a harness.

You may also install a spring pole in your backyard to exercise your dog’s neck and jaw by pulling the spring pole.

In the process, remember that your dog will tear some of their muscles. That is why it is important to observe your dog’s proper diet to rebuild their tired muscles.

Also, do not wear out your dog by pushing it beyond its limit. Always watch out if your dog is growing tired.

Let It Do a Cardio Workout

Pitbull Running after Dog Chew ToyLet your dog have a cardio workout for only a short period with a maximum of 15 minutes per day. Do not go for an hour or two because it will not help to build your dog’s muscles. It will only burn them.

The suggested way to do it is by walking your dog every morning or by training your dog to run on a treadmill.

It is better if you use the treadmill because it enables you to control the speed.

You may also put some weights for more intensity by putting a weight vest on your pooch.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoy this article and you learn that building your pit bull’s muscles is the best way to make them bigger. Muscle building enhances its strength and motion range, which prevents some possible injuries. It also makes the dog healthy by preventing fatal diseases like diabetes and obesity.

We all love our dogs, and we only want what is best for them. As pet owners, we are responsible for our dogs’ physical activity and diet. For this reason, we are the ones to blame if our dogs become sick because of diabetes and obesity.

Therefore, as pit bull owners, we should make sure to provide them with proper food and exercise. Keep them fit by building their muscles in a good way. If you want to give more suggestions on how you can make your pit bulls bigger, share it in the comments below.

Being a dog owner, I have always wanted only the best for my pet. Sebastian, my very good five-year-old Golden Retriever, receives only top-quality pet care from me.

I ensure that my good dog is healthy, energetic, and untroubled at all times. Apparently, owning a dog is not a walk in the park.

I need to be aware of Sebastian’s lifestyle and eating habits. Furthermore, my dog’s weight is of valuable consideration for me.

It is unhealthy if his body has high concentrations of unwanted fats. Hence, I usually take Sebastian for a long walk every other day to make sure that he keeps the proper weight.

In addition, it is my task to see to it that my pet gets ample napping and sleeping times. I usually take Sebastian to his veterinarian every six months, too.

During our consultations, the pet physician checks my Golden Retriever’s wellness and eating habits.

The veterinarian guides me on how my dog can get a balanced and full diet by recommending healthy, high-fiber pet foods.

Dog and bowl of dry kibble food

When shopping for Sebastian’s dog foods, I usually check the packaging labels, specifically the nutritional adequacy statement.

This information about my dog’s food must always fulfill the nutrient profiles prescribed by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

The best high-fiber dog food has to meet the requirements of the AAFCO standards. The food should also be suitable for adult maintenance or for all of my pet’s life stages.

I have tried homemade diets for Sebastian before. However, I have given him a healthy dog food diet in order for him to receive the correct combinations of fiber, fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals.

So far, Sebastian has a glossy coat, is fit in appearance, and possesses lots of energy for the longest time since I first received him as a pet in 2015.

A healthy diet has contributed to this sound well-being for my animal companion. I would like to share with you the different dog food brands that I have tried with my Sebastian.

My Golden Retriever enjoyed some of these foods, which are excellent sources of good fiber. They are really good high-fiber dog foods, but he did not seem to appreciate some of them.

By discussing their features, I would like you to know more about these brands of top dog food that are high-fiber pet foods.

Dog food in bowl

Among the brands of the best high-fiber dog foods that you may have heard of are Nature’s Variety Instinct Healthy Weight Grain, Wellness Core Natural Grain, and the Blue Wilderness Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight Chicken Recipe.

They are fiber foods, though they do not contain bran or brown rice. You can then make your own assessment on which is the best dog food for your pet.

I would also like to share with you what I think is the best high fiber pet food that is preferable for my Sebastian, and I would like you to see for yourself if you are a dog owner like me.

But first, let me share with you some useful ideas about a dog’s well-being.

10 Main Wellness Indicators of a Healthy Dog

Cat and dog, group of dogs and kitten looking up

As Sebastian’s owner, I keep myself abreast on how to make sure that he is always in tip-top shape.

I definitely would like him to be well-nourished and joyful as he is my beloved companion. I studied the primary indicators of a healthy dog. Here they are:

1. Enthusiastically Interested

Dogs are healthy if they greet their owners at the door and approach them for playtime. Sebastian is always alert, observing, and watching with zeal.

If he begins to spend time on his own, this would concern me because it is an indication that he is feeling something unpleasant.

2. Regular Bowel and Bladder Movements

Sebastian’s urine is transparent yellow, which indicates that he is in good health. In addition, his bowel movement is just right since his feces lack blood, mucus, signs of diarrhea, or dark appearance.

Thus, he is so far free from infections caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, stress, and allergies, thanks to his high-fiber diet. You should also feed your dog high fiber dog food, which I will expound further on later.

3. Frosty and Damp Nose

This condition of a dog’s nose is ideal. If it is dried, chapped, or hot, it will translate to some health problem.

4. Shiny Teeth

I regularly check Sebastian’s gums, teeth, and the inner portions of his mouth. A happy smile tells me that my Golden Retriever is, overall, in a wholesome condition.

5. Clean Ears

As a part of my regular evaluation of Sebastian, I make sure that his ears do not have a foul smell. I learned that this indicates that he is healthy.

6. Wagging Tail

I can tell Sebastian is doing very well because his tail is always wagging every time he sees me. Dogs with poor health usually have droopy tails.

7. Sheeny Coat

I learned that if my Sebastian’s coat shines after he has taken a bath or when he is simply tidy, this implies that he is in a healthy condition. His skin and golden fur are pristine as well.

8. Sparkling Eyes

Dogs with shining and lucid eyes indicate that they are not sick. Sebastian has never experienced having goop and runny eyes, which tells me that he has been healthy for the longest time.

9. Narrow Waist

Whenever we are at the veterinarian’s clinic, I get Sebastian’s Body Condition Score. Yes, a trim waist also indicates a fit body for dogs just like in humans.

So far, my pet is in good shape and is in the proper weight range.

10. Tough Nails

I make sure that Sebastian’s nails are not brittle because this condition could translate to poor health. But his nails are always clipped and strong.

Thanks to our bi-monthly visits to the pet salon. As you can see, these bodily conditions are the immediate indicators of whether a dog is in good health or otherwise.

6 Essential Nutrients That Every Dog Needs to Have in His Food

Midnight hungry dog

Just like us human beings, dogs need to eat a variety of foods in order to stay healthy and have an auspicious life experience.

As a dog owner, I learned that I should never feed my beloved Golden Retriever a restricted, four-ingredient dog food. This is not advised by veterinarians and animal nutritionists.

Feeding dogs with food having limited ingredients will not supply them with all the nourishment and nutrition that they need in order to live a long and healthful existence.

This resembles the situation of human beings in which we need to eat a variety of healthy foods, which supply the nutrients that our body requires.

Just like in human beings, the different types of nutrients are substances from the food that a dog eats.

Hence, when my Sebastian receives ample amounts of these necessary nutrients, he would be energetic and healthy.

Let me tell you more about these six major kinds of nutrients that every good dog needs in his food:

1. WATER

Bulldog Drinking WaterAn important part of a dog’s food is water, which is the transparent, tasteless, and odor-free substance composed of one oxygen molecule and two hydrogen molecules.

In the chemical formula, its shorthand form is H20. It is absolutely necessary for living organisms like dogs to drink water.

The lean body mass of an adult dog is composed of 70 to 80 percent of this liquid. I ensure that I supply my good dog Sebastian with sufficient amounts of water.

He actually has a bowl that I regularly fill with cold water from the spigot. In this manner, Sebastian’s cells receive the necessary nutrients dissolved and transported to them.

In addition, his body temperature is regulated, protein is hydrolyzed, and the carbohydrates and fats in his body are digested.

Water also cushions Sebastian’s organs and nervous system, helping to flush waste matter from his body.

2. PROTEIN

Protein is another important nutrient that a dog’s food should considerably have. It is a Dog Eating His proteinmacro-nutrient, giving energy to the pet’s body.

Composed of essential and non-essential amino acids, protein in dog foods gives healthy skin and hair, tough nails, and strong bones and muscles to my Sebastian.

This nutrient found in most top dog food is important to make enzymes, hormones, antibodies, and neurotransmitters for the optimal functioning of a dog’s body.

The best dog foods that provide high amounts of protein have the following as part of their ingredients: fish, lean-muscle meats, eggs, and plant-based sources like lentils and beans.

I learned that Sebastian must get the essential amino acids from the food he eats because his body, as a dog, cannot produce them at the necessary levels.

Moreover, protein can also give energy if sufficient fats and carbohydrates are absent. A dog’s body requires a constant dietary supply of protein because it cannot store it.

3. FATS

Sheltie and dog food bowlWholesome fats are important in the nutrition of dogs. These are macro-nutrients that are composed of fatty acids.

There are three kinds of dietary fats:

1. Poly-unsaturated (coming from sources like sunflower oil, flaxseed oil, and fish oil)
2. Saturated (coming from sources like meat, butter, and cheese)
3. Mono-unsaturated (coming from sources like olive oil)

Whenever I purchase dog food for Sebastian, I make sure that there are reasonable amounts of fat supplies based on what his veterinarian advises.

They are the most concentrated energy source. Fats contain calories that are more than twofold of those of carbohydrates and protein.

Sebastian gets the essential omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Fats also facilitate the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and protect my Golden Retriever’s internal organs.

Sebastian’s body temperature is regulated, and his healthy nervous system is promoted through his food’s fat content.

However, I am aware that excess fat can lead to gastrointestinal issues and pancreatitis for dogs.

Thus, through proper directives from Sebastian’s veterinarian, he eats the best dog foods with fats coming from ingredients like plant-based oils.

These are hempseed and flaxseed. Low-mercury fish and fish oil are also recommended as healthful.

4. VITAMINS

Dog eating foodVitamins are organic compounds that are necessary for a dog’s nutrition. They should come in small quantities for the correct metabolic functioning of pets.

There are two types of vitamins: fat-soluble and water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E, and K. They are stored in the liver and the fatty tissues. On the other hand, water-soluble vitamins are vitamins B and C, and they are not stored in those parts of the dog’s body.

Vitamins must come from the food that dogs eat because their bodies cannot synthesize them in adequate quantities. Through the help of these carbon compounds, Sebastian’s immune system is boosted, thanks to vitamin A.

Furthermore, his phosphorus and calcium levels are regulated through the help of vitamin D. Vitamins C and E serve Sebastian’s body as antioxidants. A blood clot is facilitated, thanks to vitamin K.

Finally, Sebastian’s nervous system functions are maintained through the positive effects of vitamin B12 found in some of the best dog food available in the market today.

Dog foods should contain muscle and organ meats as well as plant-based ingredients from top sources like dark, leafy vegetables.

These ingredients would enable pets to obtain their necessary supply of vitamins.

5. MINERALS

The proper metabolic functions of dogs are met through the help of minerals. These Small bulldog puppy laying beside large bowl of dog foodinorganic compounds are found in dog food and cannot be manufactured by the dog’s body.

There are two kinds of minerals:

1) Macro-minerals – These are calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and chloride. The body needs them at high levels.

2) Micro-minerals – These are iron, copper, zinc, manganese, selenium, and iodine. The body needs them but in lesser amounts than the macro-minerals.

Sebastian’s bones are strengthened by calcium and phosphorus. Iron facilitates the proper transportation of oxygen all throughout his body.

When Sebastian has wounds, zinc enables them to heal quickly. Selenium helps in supplying antioxidants in my Golden Retriever’s body while potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium help in nerve transmission.

Sodium, potassium, and chloride regulate the fluid balance in Sebastian’s body.

Minerals can be found in the best high-nutrition pet foods with ingredients like oysters, meat, which is high in phosphorus, and organ meats, which provide iron and copper.

Furthermore, some dog foods have shellfish content that is rich in zinc.

6. CARBOHYDRATES

Healthy dog foodCarbohydrates are macro-nutrients composed of units of indigestible fiber, sugars, and starches.

These elements are the only nutrient classification that is not essential for dogs because these pets can synthesize glucose from ample dietary fat and protein.

As the primary source of glucose, carbohydrates provide the fuel that dogs’ bodies depend on.

Healthy carbohydrates give significant minerals, antioxidants, vitamins, and plant-based nutrients that help dogs reach optimum health.

Brown rice is an excellent source of carbohydrates as well as beneficial vitamins and minerals.

Plenty of commercial dog foods already include them in their recipes.
Chihuahuas Eating High Fiber Dog FoodsFor instance, the Earthborn Holistic Dog Food, particularly the Adult Vantage High-Fiber Dog Food, already contains brown rice and other wholesome grains like barley, rye, and oatmeal.

These ample amounts of carbohydrates facilitate enduring energy, fiber, and healthy intestinal tract for my Sebastian.

Purina Senior Nutritionist Jan Dempsey, however, advised that when feeding dogs with brown rice, they should eat it sparingly.

Mixed with a complete and balanced diet, huge dogs can consume less than 1/4 cup of brown rice while smaller dogs can consume much less, as in a tablespoon.

Brown rice supplies considerable amounts of calories. Hence, the serving size should follow the 10 percent treat rule.

The calories coming from the brown rice should make up less than 10 percent of the canine’s daily calorie count.

I am well aware that feeding Sebastian with small portions of brown rice will prevent him from gaining extra and undesired pounds.

Meanwhile, high-glycemic “junk” carbohydrates that give little to no nutrition and raise blood sugar levels of dogs have to be avoided.

Dog nutrition needs these nutrients in order to survive and keep good health.

Some of these nutrients need to be taken from supplements because not all of them can come from the pet foods that dogs usually eat.

The advice of veterinarians and animal nutritionists are essential to guarantee that pets receive these important substances in their bodies.

Concept and 5 Advantages of High-Fiber Food for Dogs

Happy Dog Bowl

Another consideration for my Sebastian is to guarantee that he eats the right food. This would prevent him from being malnourished.

To fulfill this objective, I make sure that he eats high-fiber dog food. Let me first discuss with you what these types of food are.

I am sure you have heard about the benefits of giving the best high-fiber foods to our pets. It would be best if we understand the fundamentals of these alimentations.

When we speak of fiber, it refers to plant material that the body does not digest. Also known as roughage, these dietary materials include substances like pectin, cellulose, and lignin, which are resistant to the digestive enzymes’ actions.

There are two kinds of fiber. The first one is called soluble fiber. This type of dietary material absorbs water, breaks down into a mucus-like material, then ferments.

As soluble fiber passes through the colon, it releases gases. On the other hand, insoluble fiber also absorbs water. However, it is the kind that does not ferment.

Soluble fiber ferments at varying rates. Fiber sources that ferment slowly include cellulose and peanut hulls. Bran, soy, and pectin fiber ferment more rapidly and they could cause diarrhea.

As for the common source of fiber in high-fiber dog foods, beet pulp has moderate fermentation rates.

The ideal diet for dogs should contain a mixture of various types of fiber. Among the top sources of fiber for dogs are the following garden-based fruits and vegetables.

These best high fiber foods are included in the top or are the best high-fiber dog foods:

  1. Peaches
  2. Apples
  3. Avocados
  4. Carrots
  5. Tomatoes
  6. Pumpkin
  7. Green, leafy vegetables
  8. Beet Pulp
  9. Sweet potatoes
  10. Green beans

I have performed my research and usually consult Sebastian’s veterinarian on what would be the best dog food for him.

I am thankful that the dog physician is very knowledgeable about the best high fiber dog food that is right for my Golden Retriever.

I also experiment, allowing Sebastian to taste different dog foods and check his body’s reactions.

So far, Sebastian has benefitted from these advantages yielded by high-fiber dog foods:

1. He Has Maintained a Healthy Weight and Averted Obesity.

Man in christmas sweater giving dog food to golden retrieverHigh-fiber dog foods offer fiber as an excellent nutrient for dogs. I certainly do not want my Sebastian to be obese.

Hence, I just give him ample amounts of food with guidance from his veterinarian. Fiber makes it possible for my pet to feel full while he eats food with very few calories.

This action prevents him from becoming fat. Besides the high-fiber dog food, I give him extra sources of fiber like green beans and healthy snacks to keep him satisfied.

2. Possibilities of Diarrhea and Constipation Are Thwarted.

Cropped view of man with dog bowl giving hand to golden retrieverSebastian can be safe from constipation with the high-fiber dog food. Insoluble fiber actually absorbs water. Hence, it creates a larger and softer stool.

These types of stools activate the muscle contractions of my dog’s colon. Moreover, high-fiber dog food also helps my pet against diarrhea through the insoluble fiber.

This absorbs the excess water in Sebastian’s colon. The fermenting action of the soluble fiber is capable of regulating acidity levels and yields more friendly bacteria as well.

3. Fiber Helps the Digestive System Function Properly.

man feeding dog from handJust like with human beings, fiber is also an excellent tool for the digestive tract of dogs. It ferments into fatty acids through the healthful bacteria naturally found in the intestines of canines.

These acids help in the prevention of overgrowth of any harmful bacteria. These fatty acids also help the dog’s colon to recover from damage.

4. Probable Risk of Colon Cancer Is Stemmed Down.

dog collar and leash near bone made of dog foodFiber helps hasten the elimination and reduction of dogs’ exposure to carcinogens, which may be placed in the dog’s intestinal tract.

The fatty acids provide the necessary fuel for the cells that line the intestinal walls, cleaning and repairing them. The risk of colon cancer is, hence, reduced.

5. It Helps Improve the Conditions of Diabetic Dogs.

Dog food in bowl on tableSebastian is not diabetic at all, but I have learned that high-fiber dog food can help those dogs with this serious health condition.

The food would keep their blood sugar levels from surging. In addition, diabetic dogs’ sensitivity to insulin is diminished via the soluble fiber’s fermentation and its influence on the dogs’ release of hormones.

Now that you have understood the nature and advantages of giving high-fiber dog food to your pet, always remember that it is proper to ensure that your veterinarian is guiding you.

In this manner, your dog would be safe from any repercussions caused by unguided feeding.

Dogs are bundles of both cuteness and happiness; however, in this current day we live in, they are at an increased risk of developing skin problems if not treated carefully and immediately.

And like many illnesses, whether be it dog or man, your best bet is first to identify if there is a problem or if there isn’t one in the first place.

The skin problem we will be learning today is mange, and we will be introducing to you a checklist on how to tell if a dog has mange.

What Is Mange and Is It Dangerous?

emaciated feral dog with severe sarcoptic mange

Mange is a common skin condition that is caused by naturally occurring mites found in your dog’s hair follicles. Mites by any means should not pose any danger to your dog as long as he is healthy and well cared for; there is nothing you will have to be wary about. However, problems do arise if your dog’s immune system is weakened, compromised, or deficient by any means because by then, your dog is not strong enough.

When these mites grow in number and are preying on your dog’s weakened immune system, it can lead to some nasty skin conditions. There are specifically two certain mites to watch out for, and those are Demodex Canis and Sarcoptes Scabei. These cause Demodectic Mange and Sarcoptic Mange respectively.

1. Demodectic Mange

  • This type of mange is not contagious by any means, but a check-up with the veterinarian is still very important to find out whether what type and at what stage it currently is at. The condition can be classified as localized, generalized, and demodectic pododermatitis.
  • Localized Demodectic Mange affects only a few parts of your dog’s body, and in most cases, this is the least dangerous to deal with as they mostly go away on their own.
  • Generalized Demodectic Mange is the opposite of the first because this entails the entire body of your dog being affected by irritations, inflammation, and itchiness.
  • Demodectic Pododermatitis is another area-specific type of mange that mainly attacks the foot region of your dog, and gets between the toes. Due to its hidden nature and constant brushing against one another, it can lead to wounds and bacterial infections, certainly the hardest to deal with among the three.

2. Sarcoptic Mange

  • This is a more dangerous variant of mange; this one is highly contagious and can infect many other animals in the environment, and cause slight red bumps to appear on people too. This is one of the more troublesome to deal with because it can also latch on to any of the areas of the home that it is capable of living in–making reinfection very possible.

Now that you are very well versed and informed on the different cases of mange that exist and have a rough understanding between all of them, let us now equip you with the necessary checklist on how to tell if a dog has mange. Signs and symptoms will be your best friend, and it is in your best interest that you watch out and be on the alert for any of these for your dog:

1. Excessive Itching

  • One of the main signs that you will be quick to pick up on is the excessive itching that you may observe your dog has to deal with. The occasional itch is very normal for dogs, and to some degree, it can even be a pastime for them. However, when you start to notice that their itching levels go beyond what you’re used to seeing, then this means you might have a bigger problem on your hand.

2. Hair Loss

  • Fur gets everywhere, it gets on the couch, on your clothes, and you can’t go 2 seconds without spotting a strand lying around when you’re in the house. While this is completely normal to experience when you’ve got a pet around, it’s also something you need to watch out for. When the hair loss goes beyond the “normal” zone, and you start noticing some bald spots on your dog, then you might want to get that check out before it could lead to something much worse.

3. Weakness

  • Mange usually comes to dealing with a weakened immune system, and when your dog starts acting less happy and lively than it was before, then it could be more than just a bad day. Your dog could also work up a fever and lose the appetite to get the same amount of food he’s used to–all alarming signs that you need to be aware of.

4. Redness and Inflammation of Skin

  • Another great cause for concern is when you start noticing redness or inflammation on your dog’s skin as this is a sign of a Sarcoptic Mange which could lead to additional infections of you and other animals in the vicinity.

5. Dog’s Feet

  • Check feet especially in between them in order to rule out the chances of your dog having Demodectic Pododermatitis. The sooner you have this checked, the better you will feel later on.

6. Yourself

  • If you start seeing red bumps on your skin and slight irritations, coupled with very weird signs and symptoms showing up on your dog similar to the checklist, then do act with haste. Head to the veterinarian and get it checked.

Moral Lesson of the Mange Madness

MangeMange is one dangerous skin condition for your pet, and learning how to tell if a dog has mange will surely go a long way towards making you and your pet’s life a whole late safer, and therefore, more fun.

Just make sure to use this checklist and see if any of the signs and symptoms come back positive. And in the slightest chance that the evidence points to a positive, head to the veterinarian. It is best that you don’t take chances with risks like this and are better off finding out if it really is something to worry about or not!

Dogs have always been man’s best friend since day one. Most people prefer dogs as their pets for various reasons. On the other hand, dogs see a human as their great love. People have been fond of adopting and buying pups to take care of. As a matter of fact, the number of dog owners is growing these days, which means dogs are definitely one of the best pets a human can have.

Some people are fond of little dogs because they are easy to carry when their dogs don’t want to walk. Some people are fond of hounds and other working dogs because these breeds are active and playful. Only a few are interested in big dogs because they are high maintenance, from grooming to their shelter. Regardless of breed, dogs will always have a special place in their owners’ hearts.

I have my little pug with me, and nothing brings me more joy than to see her at the end of a long day of work. I just admire how my dog greets every day with excitement. It’s truly great, having a sweet companion just like my pet. I talk to him about my thoughts that even if he responds back through actions, I can feel he’s trying to comfort me. He’s not that playful, but I find it very fun watching him as he moves lazily.

Most dog owners are really giving everything they can just for the sake of their pets. Some rich owners even buy a condominium just for their pets. This is how dogs are being loved in today’s world. Are you wondering why?

Some Good Points Why Dogs Are Being Loved by Humans Too Much

Dogs are one of the most adored animals in the world. Friendly or not, these animals just look really adorable, which is why humans can’t get enough of their pets. If you happen to consider adopting or buying yourself a dog, but you’re in doubt, here are some good points of getting a dog as your pet.

One great thing about having a dog as a pet is developing a habit of exercising, even on small movements. If you own a dog, you have to prepare your body to move around because you’ll definitely do a lot of chasing, especially when your pet is very playful. Don’t think it’s a bad idea because it’s certainly not. Few sweats will not hurt that much, right? Just think of it as if your pet wants you to be fit. It’s also good to take a 30-minute walk if you have time, this will improve your pet’s health as well.

Let’s admit it, not even the most comfortable food can relieve our stress from school, house or work. People are being stressed every day, but if you’re a dog owner, you’ll no longer have to feel stressed every time you come home because your pet is there to save your day. If you want to unload your stress, all you need to do is to pet your dog every day or just watch your dog do random stuff. It will decrease your stress level and will make you feel a little better.

Another good point about having a dog is that you will feel safe. Dog’s mindset is set to protect whoever owns them. These animals are a great substitute for your burglar alarms because of their keen sense of hearing. For sure, your pet will scare those troubles away.

Lastly, dogs are also great responders. A lot of dogs are being reported these days wherein these animals save helpless fellow animals and even humans. You’d be surprised how a dog can seek help to humans when someone needs it.

My dog used to approach me everywhere I go around the house. He’s been a great companion, and he really eats a lot! But as I watch him sometimes, play or do something else, I always see him go outside the backyard with something and come back with nothing but dirt all over his body. It seems like he’s been digging to bury stuff and this really made me very curious why.

Out of Curiosity: Why Dogs Are Fond of Burying Stuff in the Ground

Dachshund puppy is digging hole on beach

Why do dogs try to bury their food? Do you also see your dog dig to bury other stuff in your backyard? If you’re curious to know why your dogs do it, here are some reasons why:

  • Dog instinct – It’s interesting how a dog can think ahead, and to your question, “Why do dogs cover up their food?” here’s one reason. These animals dig and hide their stuff below because of their usual urge to keep something for future necessities. Even if you feed them every day, these animals just want to make sure they have something as back up.
  • Too many blessings for them – It may sound weird, but dogs bury stuff because you’re giving too much. Not that your dogs don’t want it, it’s just their way to save what you’ve given them for later, especially if what you’ve given is too good to finish all straight away.
  • Treating it like a game – When dogs get bored, and you can’t play with them because of some personal errands, these animals will bury your precious stuff to win your attention. If you can’t find your television remote control, you know what to do next.
  • Dogs’ possessiveness – If you have multiple pets at home, your dog will surely bury stuff that’s his or her ownership. Some are really possessive, which may lead to anxiety. Just watch out if your dog is unusually behaving when it comes to his or her buried stuff. If so, you have to seek the help of a canine behaviorist or trainer.

Don’t be mad if your dog keeps on burying stuff in the ground. It’s just a natural way for dogs to take care of what belongs to them. Your pets have their own reason why there’s a need to bury the food or toy you gave them.

However, when things get a little rough in a way that your dog starts to act unusual or aggressive because of possession, you have to seek help immediately before things get worse.

Do you know how long the American Bullies live? The average lifespan of the American Bully is 12 years, which is shorter compared with other dog breeds. The other dog breeds can reach up to 15 to more than 25 years.

The American Bullies are good companion dogs, which is the reason why it is heartbreaking to see them go when they have to.

We can only do our best to take good care of them to ensure that that they will reach their maximum age, more than what is dictated. Although we cannot control the deaths of every creature in this world, we can just take out all the possible factors that can shorten the life of the living creature entrusted to us.

What You Will Need:

  • Veterinarian
  • Time
  • Love
  • Patience

Bully

Step-by-Step Procedure

Love Your Dog Despite Their Breed

There is always a misconception between the American Bully and the pit bull. Although they have a pit bull blood in them, they are a separate breed. The American Bully and the pit bull are often ditched by dog lovers because of their aggressive temperament.

Some of them end up living in an animal shelter or being abandoned on the street, which is the worse part. What they do not know is that the American Bully is a peaceful and protective animal. They do not attack for any reason unless there are threats to them or to the ones that they protect.

Visit the Veterinarian Regularly

The American Bully puppy should visit the veterinarian on a regular basis to have them checked out and vaccinated. The puppies should visit the veterinarian more often because of the series of vaccinations that are commonly done in a three-week interval.

It should start with a seven-way shot. In some places, this seven-way shot is often applied with the corona vaccination. Vets commonly apply the seven-way shot when the puppy is five weeks old.

When the puppy is six months old, the vet will give it a rabies vaccination that is repeated every three years.

When the puppy is one year old, a booster will be applied. At this stage, you should see your dog’s vet every three months to check for worm infestation.

Watch Out for the Common Health Issues of the American Bullies

American Bully Dog

Checking for further health issues is another reason why you should visit the vet. It is to ensure that your dog is healthy and free from possible health problems in the future. Here are the common health problems that you should watch out for.

  • Hip dysplasia
  • Elbow dysplasia
  • Atopy
  • Demodectic mange
  • Atopy
  • Cerebellar abiotrophy
  • Progressive retinal atrophy
  • Cataracts
  • Cleft palate
  • Cleft lip
  • Congenital heart failure
  • Luxating patella
  • Ichthyosis
  • Hypothyroidism

Observe Proper Nutrition

The American Bully breed is prone to flatulence. It is easy to feed them with food that will make them gassy. This condition is not healthy because it is an indication of the dog’s improper eating habits. You may be feeding it with unhealthy food or any food that it is allergic to.

PitbullFor American Bullies that are under 1 year of age, you should provide them with proper nutrition that will help them grow into a healthy adult. The proper formula for an ideal dog food consists of 30 percent protein and 20 percent fat. You may also add some frozen foods to their diet if you want to.

Commonly, there is no restriction on how much you can feed the American Bully puppies. In fact, you can let the feed as much as they want. However, do not force them to eat if they do not want to.

After one year or 18 months, this is the time when you should change the feeding pattern. You should feed your dog twice per day.

Make Sure That They Exercise

American Bullies are working dogs. For this reason, there is a lot of energy pent-up in them. They can release this energy through a daily dose of exercise.

Therefore, you should find time to walk your dog every morning or have your dog jog with you when you do your daily exercise. Your dog will feel bored if you fail to do this activity.

A bored dog will become frustrated and will turn to become destructive, which is something that we do not want to happen.

Let Your Dog Socialize

Dogs are naturally sociable just like humans. Teach them how to interact with children and other dogs. Do not teach your dog to play bite especially with children.

At a young age, teach them how to treat the right people well. When they grow up, they will become affectionate dogs.

Do Not Punish Your Dog By Hitting It

American Bullies are highly intelligent creatures but do not expect them to comprehend as humans do. For this reason, you need a lot of patience in training your dog. Do not punish its wrong actions by hitting because this way is ineffective and will only hurt it.

Groom It

The good news is that you do not have to spend much of your time grooming your American Bully because of its short hair. The only drawback of this benefit is that it tends to feel cold easily because of its short hair. For this reason, you should dress it up with a doggy jacket when winter comes.

Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed reading this article and you’ve learned new information. Although there is nothing that we can do to control how long do American Bullies Live, we can only take good care of them to make sure that they will reach the maximum age that they can live.

We want them to live for as long as they can to keep us company. For this reason, we should take advantage of the time that they are with us because their time is short.

Are you a dog owner or just a dog lover? If you are one of these two, seeing a dog suffering from pain or any disease is a painful sight for you. It seems like you are willing to move mountains to give them the medicine that could treat them immediately.

Before, I tried to look for pain relief medications for my dogs, but I was worried that they could have side effects. Fortunately, I found the perfect medicine that I can use on them. It is Meloxicam, a drug made for dogs and distributed under the Metacam brand.

Meloxicam can be used to treat many diseases that your dog have. Continue reading this article to know more about this dog medicine. Frequently asked questions are answered in this article like is Metacam safe for the dog, how long does Metacam stay in a dog’s system and many more.

What is Meloxicam?

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is originally for humans, but veterinarians also prescribe this medicine to treat pain and inflammation in dogs. The drug targets musculoskeletal disorders and aids in managing the stiffness that comes with those disorders.

It can be beneficial for dogs that have a specific medical history like hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis to use NSAID medicines like Metacam.

As we all know, the body has a natural response to infection or injury, which is inflammation. So does it mean that is alright for our dog to experience inflammation and just let the dogs heal without doing anything? The thing is, if you don’t treat inflammation it can lead to other diseases like arthritis.

Fortunately, Meloxicam is here to save our dogs and us from these kinds of problems.

Drugs like Metacam can lessen tissue inflammation on your dogs. It also regulates your dog’s hormones that cause inflammation and pain. As a result, your dog will feel better as soon as possible.

Metacam is available in different forms. You can purchase the Metacam injections or Metacam oral suspension, which can be liquid or solid. It all depends on which form of medicine you think is most suitable and convenient to administer on your dogs.

However, you need to remember that this medicine cannot be purchased over the counter. You need to ask for a prescription from a veterinarian.

What’s the difference between Meloxicam and Metacam?

metacam

Meloxicam and Metacam might be referred to as two similar things, but they are two different words.

Meloxicam is the name of the anti-inflammatory analgesic drug that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration or FDA.

On the other hand, Metacam is the name of the company that is producing Meloxicam for your fur babies.

Despite being considered as two similar terms that refer to the same thing, these two should not be interchanged.

What are the benefits of Meloxicam to your dogs?

You might be thinking, what Meloxicam can do to your dogs that other medicines can’t. First of all, Meloxicam can lessen your dog’s inflammation and pain. With that said, a lot of vets have been prescribing this medicine to dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.

Aside from treating inflammation, Meloxicam is also useful for treating other muscle and bone disorders as well as their symptoms. Moreover, dogs that suffer from post-operative pain can take Meloxicam. It can effectively prevent new inflamed areas from forming and prevent further complications and pain.

How long should your dog take Metacam?

I have already mentioned earlier that this medicine cannot be purchased without a prescription. So along with it, the vet will also give you a treatment plan. This means that you will only be using the drug on your dog for a certain period.

The vet might also instruct you to come back and evaluate your dog’s condition and determine if the treatment must be continued.

Unfortunately, if your dog has osteoarthritis, it has to live with it for the rest of its life.

How long does Metacam stay in a dog’s system?

It depends on your dog’s half-life. The amount of time that the drug level in your dog’s blood is reduced by half is called the half-life.

For dogs, rats and humans as well, it is around two to three hours.

What are the side effects of Metacam?

When giving your dog this medicine, you should watch out for side effects. The most common side effect that your dog can experience is an upset stomach or bowel.

It can then lead to more severe cases like developing a gastric ulcer, excreting tarry or bloody stools, having abdominal pain, and vomiting blood.

Aside from those, you should also watch for unusual symptoms like change in behavior, anorexia, polyuria, polydipsia, acquire jaundice, and fatigue.

If you observe your dog showing any of those symptoms I have stated above, it is best to bring your dog to the veterinarian.

What is the appropriate dosage for Metacam?

The dosage depends on your dog’s condition and weight. Usually, you will have to give between 0.09 and 0.1 milligrams per pound on the first day. After several days, you can lessen it to between 0.045 and 0.05 milligrams per pound.

The latter is used as the maintenance dosage.

Are allergic reactions and overdosing possible?

Meloxicam For Dogs

Dogs are like humans, and they can experience overdose too. This means that giving them an excessive amount of this drug can lead to overdosing, which can be dangerous if not brought to the vet quickly.

You should be careful with allergic reactions as well.

Here are some of the symptoms of allergic reactions and overdose:

  • Uncoordinated movements
  • Pale gums
  • Peeing more than usual
  • Being more thirsty than usual
  • Fast and labored breathing
  • Vomiting and diarrhea

Can Metacam be used on your small dogs?

Yes, it can be used on smaller dogs, but there is a specific Metacam medicine for them that has low-concentration compared to regular Metacam.

If your dog is taking other medications, it has a higher risk of experiencing adverse effects from the drug. It is best to go to the vet and tell the expert about the medicines that your dog is already taking, so you can avoid the medication from interfering with Meloxicam. Safety is always the priority when giving medication to our fur babies.
